Despite a patent dispute victory over GE and a US$5.1 million manufacturing tax credit award for its new Fort Smith, Arkansas facility, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry’s efforts to regroup in the global wind energy market are fraught with challenges.

Mitsubishi’s portfolio of US customers will likely shrink dramatically in 2010, while competition increases from GE’s new turbine platform and new market entrants. Mitsubishi must move quickly to capitalize on a window of opportunity for its 2.4 MW machine, which will require a re-vamped sales effort and capacity ramp-up.
